Silver trifluoromethanesulfonate is useful in halide abstraction. It helps in activating sulphur protecting groups at the anomeric centres of carbohydrates in the presence of iodine. It is employed as a triflating agent in combination with Palladium compounds, as a catalyst for cross coupling reactions, and in several organic transformation reactions. Polyurethanes prepared from silver triflate exhibit high permeability and selectivity towards olefins in their separation from paraffin mixtures. Polyethylene oxide - silver triflate composites find application in humidity sensors.
